Careers in Community Organizing for Social Justice Available to IU graduating students and alums!

The Direct Action & Research Training (DART) Center will be on the IU campus on Mon., April 12 @ 7PM in the Career Development Center, 625 N. Jordan Ave to discuss careers in the field of community organizing, and to schedule interviews with students interested in empowering their communities and working for social change.

8th Annual Homeward Bound 5k Walk... Sunday, April 18th!!

"The City of Bloomington's Community and Family Resources Department (CFRD) will host walk a day, change a life, the 8th Annual Homeward Bound 5K Walk, on Sunday, Apr. 18, at Third Street Park between Lincoln and Washington Streets downtown.


The yearly event, which runs from 11:30 a.m. to 4 p.m., raises money to provide housing and address hunger and homelessness in the Bloomington area. In addition to the walk, there will be activities for children at Kid's Island and live music from local musical acts. Interested parties will have numerous chances for participation, from walking and fundraising to sponsorship and donation opportunities for both individuals and corporations. Volunteers also are needed for the day of the event to direct walkers and distribute materials.

Don’t worry; there is still time to volunteer!

The Community Service Program is looking for 5 volunteers to come get domestic violence training. This will also carry on into the 2010-2011 school year and will be a great opportunity to create a long term service relationship with the community. *Transportation provided upon request!

What:The Middle Way House invites all prospective volunteers to receive Domestic Violence Training

When: Saturday April 10th, 2010 9:00-5:00PM

Where: First United Methodist Church
Room 218-219 East 4th Street (4th and Washington Streets; across from the downtown post office Bloomington)

Middle Way House is seeking to train new volunteers to help maintain the level of service that they provide to survivors of domestic violence and sexual assault. Both women and men are strongly encouraged to attend the training event. This training is a prerequisite for those interested in volunteering with the agency. Are you passionate about community service, leadership, and advocacy? Do you want a job that makes a difference?

Apply to be an ACE! The Advocates for Community Engagement (ACEs) are IU undergraduates who serve as liaisons between service-learning classes and local non-profits. Through the support of paid undergraduate assistantships with the Office of Service-Learning, each ACE serves with a specific agency for at least one year during the Fall and Spring semesters. The ACE program also provides leadership development and a campus community of peers for students of diverse backgrounds who have a common commitment to service.

Volunteer at Monroe County Public Library!!

The library is looking for enthusiastic individuals to volunteer weekly in the Learn and Play Space (formerly, the Preschool Exploration Center) in the Children’s Services Department. The LAP Space is open to children from birth to age 7 with an adult caregiver. Volunteers will facilitate the "Learning through Play" program which promotes language acquisition and early literacy skills through entertaining activities and learning centers including a writing center, kitchen area, store area, block play, letter wall, infant area, and a puppet theater. Volunteers must be 19 or older, like to be around young children, tolerant of some mess and noise, and able to communicate with young children and their parents. A one hour orientation is required prior to volunteering.
